Employers seek leadership during a union campaign
Registered nurses at Alhambra Hospital Medical Center overwhelmingly voted to strike should negotiations with the hospital fall through.
A strike date has not been set, but the vote authorizes a strike in case negotiations do not “progress sufficiently,” according to a statement from the nurses’ union, the California Nurses Association.
“As nurses, we want to be at the bedside, taking care of our patients, in conditions that are safe — for us, and for those in our care,” said Farah Gerami, an RN at Alhambra Hospital, in a statement.
The nurses have been negotiating with the hospital since they joined CNA in January 2017.
Alhambra Hospital CEO Iris Lai said the hospital is disappointed that union leadership focused on a strike rather than negotiations at the bargaining table.
“For a year, we have bargained in good faith with CNA so that we can reach a collective bargaining agreement that meets the needs of all parties, and this action by the CNA is an unhelpful distraction,” Lai said in a statement.
